Ohio soldier’s death in Kandahar is under investigation

Late yesterday, the Department of Defense announced the death of an Ohio soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. His death is under investigation by the military.

Chief Warrant Officer James E. Groves III, 37, of Kettering, Ohio, died March 16, 2013 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

CWO Groves’ death follows that of five of his comrades who died in a helicopter crash Mar. 11, in Kandahar. All five soldiers killed in that crash were also from the 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield in Fort Stewart, Ga.

Chief Warrant Officer Groves was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

His family has not released information regarding funeral arrangements for this soldier.
