Ohio has been the recipient of $29.8 million from the federal government. This is to provide funding to help prepare H1N1 vaccinations. It is planned that if H1N1 gets any worse than now, the vaccinations will be administered at state run facilities. So far there have been 593 deaths due to the virus in the United States alone. The shot to prevent H1N1 will be completely free at any state run clinic, but will only cost a few dollars to get a shot at your private hospital.
This is a nice precaution by the state and federal government, but I wonder if we could’ve used the $8.2 billion we received in February to help pay for the flu. We haven’t spent all of the money from the stimulus, and I believe most people would agree that vaccinations would be a smart use of our money, especially if H1N1 strengthens.
The U.S. debt is coming up on $11.8 trillion in the red. I think most people would agree that it’s time the states’ start spending a little more of their own money to pay for the goods that they want.
