Ohio Powerball winner scores $261.6 million jackpot: Powerball winning numbers June 2, 2010

The Powerball winning numbers for Wednesday's drawing were 4, 9, 14, 39, 43, and the Powerball 38. The Ohio Lottery reported there was one winning Powerball ticket sold for the June 2, 2010 grand prize of $261,600,000. There were an additional 1,593,727 smaller Powerball prizes won totaling more than $15.3 million dollars. Rhode Island alone saw 13,184 smaller prizes won. Because there was a jackpot winner last night, the estimated Powerball jackpot will be reset to $20 Million for Saturday, June 5, 2010.

Ohio Begins Playing Powerball Less Than 2 Months Ago    

A little over a month ago, players from Ohio couldn't even play the Powerball game. Instead, if players from Ohio wanted to buy Powerball tickets, they had to drive to a bordering state to do so. However, that all changed when Ohio became the 44th lottery selling Powerball on April 16, 2010. To celebrate the new game, one lucky person from Ohio won the whole $261,600,000 jackpot. Chris Shaw from Missouri was Last Powerball Jackpot Winner on April 21, 2010.

Who Won the Powerball? One Powerball Winning Ticket Sold in Ohio

Lottery officials in Ohio say the winning Powerball ticket was purchased at the Hub Carry Out & Deli in Sunbury, about 20 miles north of Columbus in central Ohio. The lucky winner will be presented with either an annuity prize of $261.6 million paid out in 30 payments over 29 years (the first payment is immediate), or a cash prize of approximately $134.2 million.

According to the Associated Press, "Lottery officials planned to present the Hub Carry Out & Deli with a check for $100,000 Thursday morning for selling the winning ticket. Clerk Rose Ong says it's a "wonderful" feeling and says the store doesn't know who the winner is."

Powerball Winners In and Around Providence, Rhode Island

Although there were no jackpot winners in Rhode Island for the June 2, 2010 drawing, there were still 13,184 smaller prizes won in the Ocean State. Since the beginning of the year, there have been a number of large prizes awarded in Rhode Island. In fact, there have been a total of seven winners in the month of May alone.

Two winners from Providence, Rhode Island, two winners from East Greenwich, R.I., and one each from Westerly, Cranston and Bristol, R.I. The largest Rhode Island Powerball winner in May, 2010, purchased his ticket at North Main Shell in Providence, and matched 4 numbers with the Powerball for a prize of $10,000. However, the winner also chose the Power Play option and his Powerball prize skyrocketed to a grand total of $40,000.

The Powerball game is played in 42 States, Washington D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. For Rhode Islanders, the Powerball numbers are drawn live each Wednesday and Saturday evening at 10:59pm EST on WPRI, CBS Channel 12.
