Ohio man faces animal cruelty charges for hitting dog with shovel

Standley Bryant of Lincoln Heights in Ohio is due in court on Monday and faces animal cruelty and menacing a woman and her family charges according to wcpo.com.

Authorities were called to Bryant's Jackson Street resident after a neighbor called police about animal abuse.

Bryant, 59, has been charged with repeatedly hitting his dog in the head with a shovel and a belt as well as choking the dog with a chain as he lifted the animal off the ground.

The mixed breed dog is now being treated by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There has been no update on the dog's condition.

As Bryant was being arrested, he threatened a woman and her family.
