Ohio man accused of shooting neighbor's senior dog found guilty

On Monday afternoon, a jury found Brent Parker of Kirtland, Ohio, guilty on two charges associated with the shooting death of a senior Labrador retriever who belonged to his neighbor.

The case, which began in the Willoughby Municipal Court last Friday, wrapped up on Monday afternoon.

The jury deliberated for just two hours before determining that Parker was guilty of pointing/discharging a firearm, and killing/injuring an animal

According to the News-Herald, Parker, 26, admitted that he killed the 14-year-old dog, but it was his claim that the dog approached him in an aggressive manner on the day in question last November.

At the time, Parker was in a wooded area where he had skinned raccoons.

Parker alleges that he shot the dog in self-defense after the dog became aggressive, but it was the jury's determination that Parker did not shoot the dog for "fear of his life".

The dog in question, named "Thai", belonged to Parker's neighbor, Dave Davison. In court, when asked about Thai's level of aggression, Davison stated that it was "non-existent".

For his crime, Parker has been sentenced to 45 days in jail.
