Ohio firefighter recovering from hypothermia after rescuing dog from frozen lake

See also

Once again a brave firefighter risked his own life on Sunday to save a dog from a frozen lake in Beartown Lakes in Auburn, Ohio reported fox8.com.

Julius, a one-and-a-half-year-old boxer decided it would be fun to chase geese, except the dog didn't take into account the thin ice on the lake; he fell in.

In a panic, Julius' owner called 911, and to the rescue came the Auburn Fire Department.

Firefighter Nick Tomaselli ventured out onto the lake, but the ice kept breaking, and to reach Julius, the fireman had to keep forging ahead in the ice. Unfortunately, Tomaselli's dry suit leaked, and by the time he was able to rescue Julius and bring the dog back to safety, the fireman suffered hypothermia.

Tomaselli was rushed to University Hospital's Geauga Medical Center where he is recovering.

Both fireman and dog are doing fine.

Thank you Nick.

Can we ask owners one more time before Spring hits as the ice continues melting, to keep their pets on leashes; our firemen shouldn't have to risk their lives for circumstances that are 100% avoidable and preventable.
