Northeast Ohio’s premier classical ballet company will highlight four choreographers during two performances, Friday, May 9th and Saturday May 10th, 2014
Ohio Dance Theatre will be performing “Lines 22”, a selection of various mixed numbers highlighting four choreographers at Hall Auditorium (located at 67 N. Main Street in Oberlin, Ohio). The performance is an end of season fête designed to emphasize the company’s fantastic versatility with an evening of contemporary, modern, classical and jazz works performed to music from Chopin to Swing.
Guest Choreographer Marie Zvosec’s, “Jane and Cassandra are Sisters” inspired by the life of Jane Austin and suggests the complexity of the deep relationship between Jane Austin and her sister Casandra through the use of six dancers. ODT company member Caitlin Burke will premier “Le Printemps Pas de Trois”.
“I’ve used the music of Edvard Grieg and Dimitri Shostakovich for the piece”, said Caitlin, “The music is both gentle and vibrant and I wanted to demonstrate to the audience the mastery of classical ballet technique combines with the grace and power often associated with the season of spring.”
Included in the show’s line-up will be ODT dancer Monica Starr’s contemporary work entitled “To Be” as well as Artistic Director, Denise Gula revised “Swing”, a tribute to the big band era. “Swing” was first performed in 2003 and features song titles including “Minnie the Mooche”, “I Fell In Love with a Dream”, “In the Mood”, “String of Pearls” and “Sing, Sing, Sing” among others. Other works on the program include, “Chopin Dances” and “Tabula Rasa”.
