For every lover of Classical Ballet in the Northern Ohio area I would like to let you in on a little secret. There is a professional staging of the Nutcracker that is within a forty-five minute drive. You know as well as I do that no Christmas holiday is complete without seeing a staging of this beloved classic.
Ohio Dance Theatre (headquartered in Oberlin, Ohio) will be performing the Nutcracker at the Stocker Arts Center (located at 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria, Ohio). It is simple to get to. Just take I-90 East to Detroit Road, Elyria, turn left, and then turn right at North Abbe Road. The Stocker Arts Center is located in the Lorain County Community College that is just up the road on the left.
Having seen the dress rehearsal today (see slide show) I can vouch for the fact that this is a superb performance. The sound system is superb, the set is opulent, the costumes dazzling and most important the dancing is fantastic. There is the precision in the ensemble numbers as well as wonderful leaps and jumps during the solo numbers. Joining the company for the three performances this year is none other than Daniel Ulbricht who is the principle dancer for the New York City Ballet.
Along with the regular performance on Friday there will be an extravagant gala starting at 6:30 p.m. that includes food, drink and meet and greets with all members of the cast. Click Here For More Info.
Times for the shows are 7:30 p.m. for Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21, 2013 and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013.
This is truly a rare opportunity to see one of the most renowned dancers performing with one of the premier dance companies in the United States performing one of the most beloved of all Classical Ballets. Take a 45 minute drive and witness greatness.
