A SUV carrying eight teenagers flipped over a guardrail and landed upside down in a pond Sunday morning, killing six. Five of the six dead teens were trapped underwater in the SUV and one of the teens was thrown from the vehicle and was found under the SUV when it was removed, according to Boston.com on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
The eight teens riding in the SUV ranged from ages 14 to 19 years-old and all were from Warren, Ohio, a town now mourning the loss of six of their young adults. Seven of the teens in the SUV were male with one female, Alexis Cayson, who police say was the driver, according to Fox News live Sunday night. The two young boys who escaped from the crash ran for help at a nearby home where they called 911. They have a few bruises, but that was it.
It is still not clear where the group was headed to at the time of the crash, which happened at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. Police say that speed was a factor in this crash. Family and friends were showing up at the site of the crash where a make-shift memorial of flowers, notes and other items are placed along the side of the road where the SUV jumped the guardrail.
The accident happened just south of Warren, which is about 60 miles outside Cleveland. State Police released the names of the dead teens today and they are: 19-year-old Alexis Cayson; Andrique Bennett, 14; Brandon Murray, 17; and Kirklan Behner, Ramone White and Ray, all 15. The two teens who survived the crash and ran for help are 18-year-old Brian Henry and 15-year-old Asher Lewis.
