Ohio crash: Camera captures moment before fatal Turnpike accident

An Ohio crash that killed a couple on Thanksgiving Day was captured on camera. The chilling video footage from an Ohio Highway Patrol officer's dash cam shows a motorist speeding past the trooper moments before it struck a minivan. The fatal Ohio Turnpike car accident was allegedly caused by 24-year-old motorist, who survived and faces homicide charges.

Minutes before the Ohio crash claimed the lives of Wilbur and Margaret McCoy, both 77, of Toledo, motorists phoned in 911 calls about a speeding driver, according to a Dec. 11 Marion Star news report.

He came so fast it scared the crap out of me. It was the craziest I’ve ever seen on the turnpike," one caller said before the Thanksgiving fatal crash on the Ohio Turnpike.

He's going to kill somebody," another said.

Sadly, that's what Kent resident, Andrew D. Gans, 24, allegedly did when he rammed his speeding vehicle into the McCoy's minivan.

Before the crash, Ohio Patrol officer's dash camera captured footage of Gans blowing by a trooper after another officer failed to catch up with him. Ten minutes later, the trooper comes upon the grisly scene of a fireball from a vehicle up in flames.

And despite efforts to douse the burning wreckage with a fire extinguisher, the inferno was too intense. Sadly, the two occupants were trapped inside and died on the scene.

"He could have hit anybody along this way...You're driving along the turnpike, minding your own business, and then you're dead. It's hard for me to comprehend. These people were minding their own business," said an unnamed witness to the Ohio crash caught on camera.

Gans was arrested and taken to the Sandusky County Jail on $1 million bail.
