In 2002, the number of illegal aliens transferred from the Franklin County Jail into the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement was only 17, last year that number had increased to 799. Those transferred were arrested for other crimes and discovered to be in the country illegally.
What follows is the number of illegal alien transfers over the last eight years (Source: Franklin County Jail records):

2009: 799
What was once a problem largely confined to the American Southwest has spread across the entire nation, and though Franklin County, Ohio is 1,500 miles from the Mexican border, they are also being subjected to the perils of illegal immigration.
It should also be noted that according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Franklin County has an unemployment rate of 8.4 percent. One has to wonder what that number would be without the influx of illegal aliens into the county.

Well, gee folks, we've been invaded. We (Americans) pay for troop boots on the ground to protect other countries but our Presidents (plural) have chosen to allow this country to be invaded by third world country people and heaven's only knows (because our government doesn't) how many citizen's lives will be lost to import cheap labor and votes for the Demorats. Notice that the only people in our border wars that get harmed are the American border patrol personnel? There's a reason for that. Their hands are essentially tied. We have a President and likely the one before him that had a "do no harm" policy. To bad the illegals couldn't return the favor.

Yes, we feel that the current administration has crippled the BP and other law enforcement power even more by suing Arizona over SB1070 even more and has put an enormous load on Arizona infrastructure thru public assistance taking care of them. Medical, food, 'anchor babies', etc. ..
Some I know in law enforcement say that arresting and turning illegals over to ICE is just a act of futility, as they are not charged with a crime and only deported IF they are deported... If actually charged they are released and allowed to walk the streets until their court case comes up... backlog on cases right now is about 13 months.. Without being charged and convicted and only deported they can come across again without fear of 'second offense', punishable by jail time.
Arizona is trying to rectify this here with SB1070 because the feds are not doing their job... SB1070 will make it a STATE crime of trespassing and punishable by jail time (plus any other crime committed while being in Arizona without proper documentation.

They will self deport if you cut of the reasons to stay here. End all welfare for ILLEGAL aliens, require students to prove they are citizens and use E-verify so they can't work. Drug dealers, gang bangers and the criminal element left behind will be taken care of by police if we let them do their sworn duty. Really it's not as complicated as many pro ILLEGAL aliens types make it out to be. ENFORCE our laws against ILLEGAL aliens now and end political correctness!

Where is the source and where is the breakdown of what "crimes" these "illegals" are committing?
American voters must make sure we do NOT elect people who are sympathetic to illegals, allow them to continue to break our laws and support amnesty. We need zero tolerance immigration enforcement. Perhaps if the illegals see we, as a country, are determined to enforce our laws, drop ALL benefits to illegals and anchor babies, mandate E-Verify, Secure Communities & 287g nationwide, Social Security # matching, jail and heavy fines for employers of illegals, they would self deport. I hope this new Congress deals a heavy dose of enforcement upon the illegals and those who assist in their crimes.
Ohio is a border state, it's on the Canadian border. Fortunately, those pesky Canadians behave themselves. The increasing deportation numbers are due to better enforcement. Franklin County and several other counties now participate in Secure Communities and you see the deportation numbers have increased. Ohio closed a loop hole that enabled llegal residents to register a vehicle and we have voter ID requirements.
Even the city of Columbus and Dayton participates in Secure Communities. Both of these cities go easy on illegal immigrants. Dayton and Gahanna have purchased portable finger print scanners. These devices enable a police officer to scan finger prints in the field. No need to drag a suspect "[i]down town[/i]" for a photo and finger print check.
The Ohio Highway Patrol has a written policy that outlines how a patrol officer may inquire about a resident's immigration status. This policy also details how to report an individual to ICE.
Central Ohio is a hotbed of drug trafficking. Fortunately, some critical busts have occurred. Most of them were connected to Mexican drug cartels.
I'm hoping the State legislature passes some additional enforcement measures. Look for news in Jan.
In 2012, vote Sen Sherrod Brown out. He has consistantly voted for amnesty and supported illegal residents. He has failed citizens and legal immigrants.
