Ohio breweries win at World Beer Cup

The Craft Brewers Conference was held in Denver this past week (April 8-11) and culminated in the Friday night World Beer Cup awards. Often referred to as "The Olympics of Beer Competition", the WBC is the world's largest global beer competition. This year more than 4,700 beers from over 1,400 breweries from 58 countries participated. Of 282 possible awards, 281 were awarded to 253 different breweries, making this the most diverse bunch of winners ever, and making it very difficult to win more than one medal.

But, Fat Head's Brewery did just that, bringing home a silver medal in the American Style India Pale Ale category for "Headhunter" and a silver medal in the Imperial Red category for "Bonehead."

Ohio, in fact, dominated the Imperial Red Ale category as Columbus Brewing won the gold medal for "Uncle Rusty." Another gold medal was won by Willoughby Brewing Company in the Specialty Beer category for their popular "Peanut Butter Cup Porter."

Last, but not least, Thirsty Dog Brewery won a bronze medal in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category for their bourbon barrel-aged "Siberian Night."

Pretty good showing for Ohio, eh? Good job, folks...congratulations, all!
