An Ohio bar shooting left three men dead and a fourth injured Sunday when a gunman opened fire inside a bar in Fremont, Ohio. One of the men killed was an off-duty police officer who had come from out of town for his birthday.
According to a report Monday from The Associated Press, as carried by Yahoo! News, suspect Igmidio Mista, 33, was charged with three counts of murder and has been jailed awaiting arraignment.
The incident occurred at the Last Call bar, located at 531 W. State St., at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Killed in the shooting were Elmore police officer Jose Andy Chavez, 26, bartender Ramiro Sanchez, 28, and a patron in the bar, Daniel Ramirez, 25.
The fourth victim, 25-year-old Ramiro Arreola, was airlifted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to the Toledo Blade, Daniel Ramirez’s wife, whose name was not provided, was allegedly punched in the face shortly before the shooting began.
“There may have been an altercation that precipitated this,” Fremont Police Chief Timothy Wiersma said. “Things got way out of hand,” Wiersma said, adding: “We are reviewing video and will have it enhanced.”
Neighbors described hearing gunshots and the chaotic scene.
“I was getting ready for bed and I heard two shots,” said Jennifer Ashley, who lives across the street. “I looked and saw this little guy running and get into an SUV and drive away.”
Manuel Chavez, the uncle of victim Andy Chavez and also related by marriage to Daniel Ramirez, told the Sandusky Register that after the woman was allegedly slapped, “All hell broke loose — my nephews jumped on this guy.”
Mista was reportedly kicked out of the bar but returned through a back door and started shooting.
