When Canton, Ohio resident Jane Biehl received her hearing dog Sita from Circle Tail, Inc in 2007 she never imagined that her partnership with the yellow Labrador mix would lead to publication in an international collection of animal stories. But, with the November, 2012 release of the anthology "Writers for Animals," that's exactly what has happened.
Edited by Jenny Elliott-Bennett, "Writers for Animals" is a collection of twenty stories designed to highlight the bond between humans and animals. Writers from all over the world were invited to submit their tales, and Biehl was one of twenty chosen for inclusion in the anthology.
The book includes the story of a paralyzed cat who gets around so quickly she is nicknamed Roadrunner, a rescued sparrow named Mortimer, and a group of street dogs in Greece. All of the stories are designed to touch the hearts of animal lovers everywhere.
Biehl's story, entitled "Two Guardian Angels," is a love letter to both her late mother and the dog who has changed her life in ways she never would have believed possible.
As Biehl states, "My mother was the person who insisted I get a hearing ear dog. I finally decided to do this because of her. She was my angel and always right – Sita was the best thing to ever happen to me. And Sita was there for me after I lost my mother. I do think I was so fortunate to have two guardian angels."
While Biehl was very surprised to be chosen for the anthology, her "Two Guardian Angels" story is just the latest in a string of publications she has authored. In addition to numerous magazine articles and book chapters, Biehl has also written a children's book called "Here to Bump and Bump to Hear," which is about Sita.
"Writers for Animals" is now available for purchase on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and all proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to animal rescue organizations in the UK and Ireland.
