Oh, you beautiful dolls: Russian Beatle fans' special present for Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band will have a nice surprise waiting for them when they get to Moscow on Monday.

Beatles.ru, a community of Russian-speaking fans with more than 20,000 members in Russia and around the world, will give the former Beatle a traditional Russian matryoshka doll. It's actually a set of dolls of increasing sizes placed one inside the other.

The largest doll will feature a picture of Ringo Starr. Inside the Ringo doll will be smaller dolls depicting the members of his All Starr Band. (You can see pictures of each doll in the slideshow at the left.)

The idea for the gift was conceived by Beatles.ru and designed by Gregory Don. Each doll will be inscribed with each All Starr Band member's name. Ringo's doll will also have the words "From Beatles.ru Fan Club Moscow, Russia, June 2011."

Representatives of the club say they are hoping that the souvenir will be a lasting reminder of the 2011 tour for Ringo and the band.

This is actually the fourth gift the group has given to former members of the Beatles, though it's their first to Ringo Starr. Three previous gifts were given to Paul McCartney during past concerts in the former U.S.S.R. In 2003 during Paul McCartney's visit to Moscow, club members presented him with a bass balalaika. In 2004 in St. Petersburg, he was given a copy of a record award for exceeding 3 million sales. Three years ago before the Kiev Independence Concert, McCartney was given a bass kobza, an Ukrainian folk instrument.
