Over the weekend, we ran a story here about the ongoing feud between Wyclef Jean and Sean Penn, two gentlemen who are devoting a lot of time and energy to the current shenanigans going on down in Haiti. First, Sean Penn called Jean an opportunist. Then Jean responded that Penn's on coke. Now Sean Penn has responded to that response, and we've got the statement for you below, my gentle Examiner readers...
It was just over a week ago that we were all having a good laugh at the "Between Two Ferns" episode that Sean Penn recently taped with comedian Zack Galifianakis, a moment that offered some much-needed levity towards the public perception of the actor (who had been ranting and raving about Wyclef Jean being an opportunist to CNN just a few weeks prior). But the Sean Penn fan-community wasn't laughing when Jean-- currently campaigning for a spot atop Haiti's government-- accused the actor of being too coked up to know what he's talking about last week.
We reported on this situation, framing the whole thing in an "Oh, Snap!" sorta-thing that ended up generating a lot more interest than anyone here at Comedy Examiner HQ was expecting. Even more surprising is the fact that Penn's representation has reached out with an official response to Jean's "Oh, Snap!" moment. Here's the full statement, courtesy of Penn's people:
“Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti. As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body’s immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous. More specifically, J/P Haitian Relief Organization (a.k.a. JPHRO) has a ZERO tolerance policy for any and all illegal drugs. As the leader of this organization, Sean Penn has not only set this policy, but adheres to it. That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising.”
Oh...snap? Clearly, Sean Penn is not getting into the whole "Oh, Snap!" mood that we were trying to set when we reported on this story over the weekend. There's not a single "Yo Momma" joke in that entire paragraph, nor are there any references to Wyclef Jean being a "wanksta", which is common-- if not expected-- during these sorts of territorial battles. A finely-worded response, to be sure, but we're going to give it an "F" in the personality-department.
