Director Bryan Singer returns to the franchise after some absence and casts actors from both the original X-Men trilogy and the newer X-Men: First Class franchise. Hugh Jackman is once again the hirsute Wolverine. Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy will both portray the iconic professor Xavier. Magneto, the constant shadow to Xavier's light, also returns to the series. Sir Ian McKellen will portray the older Magneto while Michael Fassbender is once again the troubled, younger Erik Lehnsherr. Notable cast members include Evan Peters, Omar Sy, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Peter Dinklage.

While some footage of the film was screened at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, today was the first official trailer from 20th Century Fox.

The film is scheduled for a May 23, 2014 release.
