Sony Computer Entertainment announced the official release date for the PlayStation 4 during the company’s Gamescom 2013 media conference on Tuesday, Aug. 20. The PS4 will release in North America on Friday, Nov. 15 and then see release in Europe on Friday, Nov. 29. In total, the PS4 will launch in 32 countries this holiday season.
As was revealed during E3 2013, the PlayStation 4 will retail for the reasonable price of $399 and launch with a wide-range of software. Those that buy a PS4 at launch will receive a free 14-day subscription to PlayStation Plus, allowing users to download ResoGun for free – this deal has only been announced for Europe.
Sony continued to share that the PS4 has passed 1 million pre-orders worldwide -- Wal-mart will take in-store pre-orders starting on Aug. 24 for those who are still looking to secure a PS4 for the holiday season.
Despite detailing and announcing a full launch lineup of over 20 games during their Gamescom conference, Microsoft has yet to announce an official release date for the Xbox One.
With the PS4 release date now set in stone, it will be interesting to see where Microsoft’s Xbox One releases in relation to the PS4.
