In case you missed it, January was the official National Food Month for:
- canned food
- eggs
- fiber
- hot tea
- oatmeal
- prune breakfasts
- slow-cooking
- soup
- wheat bread
Wow, that's a lot of health to absorb in one month. Fortunately most of those foods fit with meals for cold winter, days. I can envision a day that includes just about all of them:
- Breakfast: oatmeal, chopped dried plums (aka prunes), eggs, toasted wheat bread. The oatmeal, prunes and wheat bread all fit in the fiber category, too.
- Lunch: canned soup, sandwich made with whole wheat bread, etc.
- Snack: tea, oatmeal cookies made with dried plums (aka prunes). Significant fiber
- Dinner: chili or stew that been cooking all day in a slow-cooker. Use some canned foods in the chili, like beans and tomatoes.
Better get busy if you want to fit all those National Month foods into what's left of January. Then get the family outside for some physical activity, because it's also Family Fit Lifestyle Month.
February is National Eating Disorders Awareness Month, ending with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, February 26 - March 3, 2012, during which various organizations sponsor events. Throughout February, I'll be writing about eating disorder treatment and support options in Colorado. Colorado is blessed with a wealth of intervention options. If you're dealing with a potential problem, your own or that of a loved one, stay tuned to this series.
