Office Depot reduces staff at headquarters

There is good news and bad news for people associated with the merger of Office Depot and Office Max. Some people will be getting promotions and Boca Raton is getting a new headquarters.

But 35 percent of the people working for the newly formed company have lost their jobs, according to an announcement by the new CEO Roland Smith, in an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the February 26 Sun Sentinel.

The merger has meant more jobs for Boca Raton. But there will be job losses for people who have worked for Office Depot and Office Max. Smith has said that there will be store closures for Office Depot and Office Max, in the article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the February 26.

Corporate mergers almost always mean job losses. Sometimes these job losses are become high level positions become redundant. Also, some stores or business units are consolidated to make operations more efficient.
