Anthony J.D. Angelo said, "Knowing is half the battle". This quote applies to many areas of life. In order for us to protect our families and especially our children, it couldn't be more true when it comes to knowing our neighbors. It's not necessary to get all "up in their business", but it is necessary to know if you have an offender living in your neighborhood. Also important, check the offender registry list before you leave your child with someone you don't know well, such as: New babysitters, those who will be near children at sleep-overs, etc. It's also important to know that many offenders are never caught. These are the smart ones. Quick advice: Always, always, always, trust your gut when it comes to who you leave your kids with, or who your kids will be around.
We have at our fingertips, easy tools to check if there are offenders living in your area. It must be noted, however, they may not always be 100% accurate 100% of the time, as offenders may move and not report their address. That said, it is still a valuable tool.
