The body of an Atlanta police officer was found entrapped in the sport utility vehicle he was driving before he crashed into a tree off a Douglas County road Monday night.
The Georgia State Patrol on Tuesday was still trying to determine what led to the deadly crash.
Troopers said the crash happened around 6:25 p.m. on Mann Road, just north of Stockmar Road.
Mr. Ryan Adrian Baird, 38, of Douglasville, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Mann Road when he lost control at a curve, GSP’s spokesman Mr. Gordy Wright said.
The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, Mr. Wright said.
“Baird died in the crash and was trapped in the vehicle,” he said. “No other vehicles or people were involved.”
Mr. Baird, who was off-duty at the time, has been with the Atlanta Police Department for 31/2 years and was assigned to the Community Service Division’s Airport Section, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
