Of course Eminem was in on the Bruno joke. The only problem was: A lot of others weren't..jpg)
Had it been Borat who suddenly came down from above, bare-assed -- a la Howard Stern -- more people would've gotten the joke.
It amazes me that anyone would take the stunt seriously, especially given the other elements that helped create it.
Kudos to Eminem for having a sense of humor to play along, which you know he did. Were it not staged, you could be sure Bruno would've been turned into a pinata..jpg)
Start with Eminem's genuine response to Triumph the Comic Insult Dog at a previous MTV awards show.
Throw in the rapper's homophobe tag.
And don't forget the echo of Fartman.
Add in a big-budget movie by a guy willing to do anything to get free publicity -- and who, as Borat, had a Hugh Jass in his face in his last flick.
Did anyone else notice how MTV's cameras zeroed in on Mr. Mathers, of all people, just as Cohen was flying in?
For fans of Bruno, it was a riot (good thing, of course, that it wasn't a gas). The stunt was a joke wrapped inside a joke wrapped inside a joke, etc.
But at this point, Bruno doesn't have a fraction of Borat's notoriety. Or Ali G's.
Right idea. Wrong audience.
Pity, too. Bruno's routines are extremely funny.
And now, the video: Bruno meets Eminem
