In March I wrote a story about Odette Ramos possibly running for City Council in the 12th district (Read this article to learn some interesting details about this race). Today I learned that Ramos is officially running. You can view her official campaign website here. It appears that Rice Consulting is her fundraiser. Here is a list of some other Rice clients (they left off Sheila Dixon for some reason).
Below is the email I received that officially announced her candidacy:
"Colleagues, Friends, and Family:
Yesterday I filed to run for Baltimore City Council in the 12th District! I am excited about this opportunity to help the residents of Baltimore City. I am ready to solve problems with new and creative ideas and actions in our community.
Residents of Baltimore's 12th District need a strong and motivated advocate as their representative. As that advocate, I will be the 12 District's number one fan, fighting hard for the needs of residents. Our district needs someone who listens and implements great ideas. I believe that I am that person.
The Baltimore City Council Primary Elections are September 13, 2011 and will be here before we know it! The race for the 12th District Council seat is currently open. This race promises to be exciting and very challenging. I am fortunate to have a dedicated group of individuals leading this campaign. We need your help to win!
I need your support. Here's what you can do:
* Join Us - The announcement of the Ramos campaign to the press will be held on May 12, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Lafayette and Barclay Streets by the mural in the new Greenmount West Community.
* Attend - Come out to our first Ramos campaign fundraiser hosted by Maria Welch on May 24, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at Joe Squared, 133 West North Avenue in the Station North Arts District. Find out more here.
* Sign Up - Get the latest information on the Ramos campaign and opportunities to help by signing up for my e-newsletter (sign-up fields are at the top of the page).
* Get Active - The only way we will win this race is with dedicated volunteers. It is important to connect with every voter. We need volunteers for door-to-door activities, distributing literature, and more.
* Contribute - We need to raise over $80,000 to win. ANY AMOUNT WILL HELP!
Visit my website to learn more about my background and experience as well as my ideas for improving our City. Keep checking the website periodically for up-to-date news stories, fresh photos, videos and more!
I am so thankful to the many people who have already pledged their support! Together, we will make this happen!
Thanks again!
Odette Ramos"
