Facing more than five years behind bars, Nadya Suleman today pleaded not guilty to felony welfare fraud. Wearing a conservative business suit to her arraignment, the mother of 14 children showed up in Los Angeles court this morning to answer serious charges that she received welfare payments illegally.

After filing for public assistance in January of 2013, Suleman reportedly accepted and cashed welfare checks totaling more than $16,000 during the first six months of that same year.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says what is at issue is Suleman's failure to report some $30,000 in working income she received from her adult entertainment video and promotional engagements.

Suleman was charged with a single count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid. The infamous celebrity copped a not-guilty plea on all three charges.

In 2009, Suleman made history in the medical industry by becoming the second female in the United States to deliver eight babies successfully, utilizing in vitro fertilization to get pregnant. According to the Los Angeles Times, the now-38-year-old was depending on public assistance at the time.

In 2012, Suleman announced a collaboration with Adam Barta, later appearing in an alternate cut of the recording artist's "Q&A" music video. Also in 2012, Suleman appeared as a solo performer in "Octomom Home Alone," an adult-oriented project that was produced by Wicked Pictures.
