Octomom fraud: Is Nadya Suleman earning $200K and collecting welfare?

Nadya Suleman – aka Octomom – is being accused of cheating California welfare law, according to a March 20 TMZ report.

The famous mom of fourteen is being blamed with understating her income and accepting various forms of state aid, including food stamps.

After the initial hype surrounding the birth of her octuplets, Suleman has sank to finding work in the porn industry and becoming a tabloid fixture, accepting money from interviews, men's magazines and adult films.

“Someone made the allegation last week to the LA County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation, claiming Octo is getting various forms of welfare, including food stamps, even though she made nearly $200,000 in 2012,” TMZ says.

Under California law, an individual with 14 children can legitimately collect welfare if total annual income is under $119,000. If the estimates of Suleman’s 2012 income are correct, she earned close to double the maximum amount allowed to receive welfare benefits.

If the allegations are shown to be true, Suleman will be prosecuted and could face 3 years in prison, leaving her 6 children at home in care of someone else.

In previous interviews, Suleman admitted to accepting welfare benefits, but stressed it was only temporary and was looking forward to being a provider to her family. She stated she was “embarrassed” to be living on taxpayers’ money.
