Alexis Cornelio

Name: Jabba The Butt

Number: 16

Years with League: 2

Primary Position:  Pivot

What’s a typical day or week like for you? Get up go to work. Go to mom and dads to mooch for dinner.  Then usually hang out with friends.

With such a busy life what keeps you motivated with roller derby?  I’ve always been one to give up on the sports I was playing in.  Softball, volleyball, I’d usually get bored quickly.  With roller derby there are always new plays, strategies and people coming around that there is NEVER a dull moment.  Also if I   didn’t skate I’d be really fat. So there’s that.

What is your skate gear of choice? I think currently I have Protect helmet and knee pads 187 wrist guards and elbow pads.

Who are your roller derby heroes?  Eclipse #0 From KC Roller warriors.  Showing that just because you’re a big girl doesn’t mean you can’t move on the track.

Do you have a motivational quote? Be not simply good be good for something –Thoreau….oh and WE GONNA FIGHT!

Do you have a signature move? I never shut up, on and off the track.

Do you have any advice for girls who are thinking about joining roller derby? DO IT! Listen to what your coaches and captains are telling you.  It might sound like it doesn’t really matter.  But 9 times out of 10 what they’re telling you is a short cut around the long way they already took.

What animal do you think best describes your derby playing style? Baby elephant.

Anyone you'd like to take the opportunity to thank?  My grandma and grandpa for buying me my first pair of skates.  My Dad for telling me I’d quit after the first week I joined (knowing that I wouldn’t quit just cause he said that.) And my mom for slowly getting a taste for derby clothing.

Stay tuned for next month’s Derby Girl of the Month, when we feature another talented TRG derby girl!

Signing out,
OEO
