UPDATE 10/22/13: Within 24 hours, Champagne's foster family fell head over heels in love with her and adopted her.
UPDATE 10/21/13: Champagne has found a foster home, but she's still looking for her permanent home.
Champagne is a special girl, by all accounts. Saved by Eleventh Hour Rescue in New Jersey, this compact, 40-pound middle-aged Bull Terrier mix has survived breast cancer, but now that she's recovered and is ready to move into a home, all she has is a kennel, to call her own.
"Champagne is known around the kennel as the sweetest dog on earth. She is one of the most affectionate dogs I have met… Ever. She will always greet you with her favorite ball in her mouth, tush wagging with anticipation of the game of fetch she knows she's about to play with the volunteers in the play yards. About three minutes into fetch, she drops her ball and begs to snuggle," writes a volunteer with the rescue, then adds, "You can feel the happiness radiate from her the entire time and putting her back in her kennel run is one of the most gut-wrenching feelings on the planet. We all know she has her fan club and will get out again soon, but it doesn't help. We cry. I've seen everyone tear up putting her back."
Champagne is the best friend a human could ever ask for; however, she cannot be around any other pets, which makes the rescue's search for a foster or forever home for her, very complicated. Champagne needs someone who understands her only flaw, and is willing to love her for what she is: an exceptional girl who has been through so much, loves every person she meets, but isn't able to share her space with other animals.
October is the month for both the fight against breast cancer, and pet adoptions. Champagne embodies both. If your heart is big enough for this wonderful girl, please, see her rescue listing here.
