October is always a fun month for any horror writer and lover. One meme describes horror lovers perfectly. “We treat every day like Halloween, only we go crazy in October.”
Many television shows are having special premiers or full weeks dedicated to Halloween. Bloggers and writers are in are element with special occasions. The Horror Writers Association is in the middle of their third annual Halloween Haunts blog-a-thon at www.horror.org/blog Every day at least one member posts a blog about Halloween intermixed with interviews from past winners of the prestigious Bram Stoker Award. Yours truly has a blog entitled, “Trick or Treat” that will feature a sample of my short story, “The Unknown,” and a contest for a free Kindle version of the same on October 18th. Horror movie buffs are bracing for the October 18th opening of the Carrie remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Now for Examiner fans the goal is to write a post every day for the month of October; could be any genre of movie so it’s a good thing that I am both a New Orleans Movie Examiner and a New Orleans Horror Movie Examiner.
Monday: Random Movie Monday (movie could be anything)
Tuesday: The Return of True Tuesday
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday (comedy)
Thursday: Throwback Thursday (classic movies of any genre)
Friday: Family Fright Night (exclusive to Horror Examiner) featuring family friendly frights
Saturday: Supernatural Saturday Night (current series is “Remakes”)
Sunday: Sunday Night Spot Light (generally a book or actor review)
The October 12th edition of Supernatural Saturday Night will go live at 4pm from http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.examiner.com%2Freview%2Fsupernatural-sat-nite-remakes-nightmare-2010%23sthash.orYUKyeb.dpuf&h=9AQHBxcqp
The goal for next week, October 19th is to review the Carrie remake. Chloe Grace Moretz has been a part of some wonderfully creepy horror movies and this is not her first jaunt into horror remakes. She played Chelsea in the Amityville Horror remake with Ryan Reynolds and was Carolyn Stoddard in the atrocious remake of Dark Shadows. She also played Emma in Wicked Little Things a ghost story about a horrible mine accident where children were buried alive. Unfortunately for Emma’s family their spirits still linger there lusting for revenge. Julianne Moore is also fabulous and picked up the role of Agent Starling in Hannibal, a movie that I am ashamed to say that I have not watched in its entirety yet.
Tonight’s Family Fright Night Review is “Hocus Pocus” and apparently one of its stars, Jason Marsden who does the voice of “Binx” in Hocus Pocus is thrilled with the love I’m showing his career. After reviewing Eerie, Indiana and tweeting to my followers of my love for his character Dash X, with plans to review Hocus Pocus this week, he tweeted, “Much Love Backatcha! ;-)”
