It's hard to believe that September is over, but as we enter October, we are greeted with crisp air, an array of autumnal foliage, apple and pumpkin picking.
With the government shutdown in effect, all the National Parks are closed and that includes Highland's serene secret 'Sandy Hook.' Fortunately, locals still have Hartshorne Woods to frequent and Octoberfest!
This coming Saturday, October 5th, the borough of Highlands will be celebrating their annual Octoberfest! Over 5,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the weekend to enjoy this authentic German experience.
Complete with German food, beer and oompah bands, this event promises to be a festive smorgasbord .
The activities will be held at Veterans Park on Bay Avenue and run from 2 to 10 PM Saturday and Sunday. A tradition since 2001, Highland's Octoberfest offers a selection of Bavarian food, entertainment, German beer, arts and crafts, and German desserts.
Come sample the food, visit the local vendors for home made crafts and stay to see the fireworks at 7:30 pm. Visitors can also participate in various contests, such as “Best-Dressed” and “Beer Stein Holding” competitions, which are awarded with various prizes.
Come out and enjoy the quaint environment of 'small town' hospitality in Highlands.
