In the pantheon of phenomenal duets - Jordan and Pippen, peanut butter and jelly, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears (?) - there is one union that truly stands out. October 4th is National Vodka and National Taco Day, and for this alone, humankind may stand a chance.
A vodka connoisseur of considerable standing and mindfulness, I, of course, knew what today was. I would, however, like to thank a friend at South Florida Food and Wine for the kind reminder and wake-up tweet. Must also acknowledge Mommy Musings for making the vodka/taco connection, of which I was also fully aware (see "considerable standing, etc.", above). What?
There are those who would question the compatibility of vodkas and tacos. There are also those who didn't like the song "Say Say Say" by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. These people have questionable taste and are not to be taken seriously.
Vodka and tacos go together like vodka and everything else, that is to say wonderfully (exception: see DIY Home Repairs). Ever had pollo asada with a vodka, lime, orange juice and Grand Marniner cocktail? Sure, that sounds like a margarita, but this is better, if only because it does not contain tequila. The margarita is the thin ledge upon which tequila teeters, clinging perilously to life, and you needn't suffer it while there's vodka around.
Try your own favorite taco/vodka combination, unless you erroneously mistake Taco Bell's products for tacos. In such case, you are better off drinking tequila, straight from the bottle, really, then go ahead and download the new Miley Cyrus album. Everyone else with a reasonably bright future, eat real tacos, drink quality vodka cocktails and salute this incredible confluence of contrived National Observances.
