October is half over and so far this is a very warm and sunny month. The average temperature for the month, which includes both the highs and lows, is 60.20° which is 6.41° above average. The typical high temperatures for early October are in the low 60s. The average high for this month so far is 71.67° which is 8.23° above average. The average early October low temperatures are in the lower 40s. The average low temperature for this month is 48.73° which is 4.58° above average. Grand Rapids even observed a record warm minimum temperature on the fifth with a low of only 65°.
Sunshine has been abundant leading to all the warm days. We’re a whopping 19.1% above the average for possible sunshine.
Even with all the warm and sunny days, the first half of the month has been rather wet. Grand Rapids even observed record rainfall on the fifth with 1.72 inches. So far Grand Rapids, is 0.97 inches above the average.
The warm and sunny weather is changing rapidly as we are undergoing a major pattern shift. The last half of the month turns decidedly cool and damp as a series of cold fronts usher in chillier temperatures. High temperatures dip from the 60s and 70s to the 40s and 50s.
