Oct. 7, 1964: The Beatles appear on the U.S. TV show 'Shindig!'

ABC's "Shindig!" and NBC's "Hullaballoo," two '60s prime-time teen music shows, battled each week to get the attention of teen viewers. "Hullaballoo" had regular segments featuring Beatles manager Brian Epstein and British musical acts, many from acts Epstein dealt with.

But on Oct. 7, 1964, "Shindig!" managed a ratings coup with an appearance taped in London by the biggest pop group in the world, the Beatles. The group didn't just recycle old songs, but sang one tune that was world premiered on the show,  "I'm a Loser." They also sang "Kansas City"/"Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey!" and "Boys."

Watched both of these shows religiously as a teenager along with all local shows such as Shebang, Hollywood a Go Go, 9th Street West, Lloyd Thaxton Hop and also with my friends would go down to the now missing in action P.O.P. ( Pacific Ocean Park ) and watch them film Dick Clack's "Where the Action is".... some really great memories of growing up here in Los Angeles....oh yeah... the Teenage Fair held at the Hollywood Palladium every Easter week....Thanx for refreshing my memory.

KRLA and KHJ... staying up and listening to the Fabs
late at night when new stuff was released! Ahhh, those

Love this (despite the slight delay between voice and picture)!!! In particular, love the bits showing McCartney mouthing the words to "I'm A Loser" off to the side as John sings the verses. And, these performances are damn tight. Too bad they can't collect all these really excellent live performances, clean the sound up, and release them as some kind of "live Beatles" box set, or something. There has to be tons of stuff that, with technology even superior to that from the Anthology period, could make these perfs sound really terrific.
