Today marks the first day of October. I can hardly believe it! Today is actually a pretty important day for homeschoolers as it is the first day of the 2011-2012 schoolyear where those who file their own private school affidavit, are allowed to do so at this link :
California Dept of Education (file here): http://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/ps/rq/
HSLDA gives step by step instructions here: http://hslda.org/hs/state/ca/affidavit/AffidavitInstructions.asp
It has to be filled out by October 15.
Secondly, Oct. 1st is important because it is the Local Group Astronomy Club of Santa Clarita's Astronomy Day at the Valencia Library!
There are so many great activities that will be happening between 1-9pm.
It will start off with a documentary at 1pm about 400 years of telescope. That will be followed by solar observing with special telescopes at 1:30pm. Maxwell Ward will instruct you next on how to make your own telescope at 2pm. At 3pm, Don Cogan will be cooking up some comets. Learning the constellations with games will be next at 4pm with Steve Petzoid. Viewing the moon, the double star Albireo, and other star clusters are the things you could look forward to at night after 7pm when telescopes will be set up in the library parking lot. You can come and go as you wish during this all day event.
Last, but not least, there is family game night at the Vincenzo's Pizza on the corner of Bouquet & Plum Canyon Roads from 6-9pm.
So that's the homeschool news for this Saturday! Enjoy your family today!
