For Monday, October 14 2013 LA TV Insider Examiner recommends:
How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8 p.m.) - "The Poker Game" - When Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is forced to pick sides in a fight between Robin (Cobie Smulders) and his mother (guest star Frances Conroy); Lily (Alyson Hannigan) coaches him on how not to ruin his relationship. Meanwhile, Ted (Josh Radnor) and Marshall (Jason Segel) get into a dispute over wedding gifts and thank-you notes.
Hart of Dixie (The CW, 8 p.m.) - "Friends in Low Places" - Trying to be hospitable to Joel (guest star Josh Cooke), who is visiting BlueBell, Lavon (Cress Williams) and AnnaBeth (Kaitlyn Black) invite him and Zoe (Rachel Bilson) over for a quiet dinner, but when Lemon (Jaime King) meets Alabama’s most eligible bachelor, Carter Covington (guest star Ryan McPartlin), she invites herself along with Carter to the soiree. However, when some unexpected guests show up to the party, Lemon’s ruse with Wade (Wilson Bethel) risks being exposed. Meanwhile, George (Scott Porter) makes a bad decision involving Lynly (guest star Antoinette Robertson), which could ultimately ruin his friendship with Lavon.
The Voice (NBC, 8 p.m.) - "The Battle Premiere" - The "battle rounds" begin and the coaches enlist the help of the music industry’s top recording artists to offer their knowledge and skills as advisers. Adam Levine teams up with Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, Blake Shelton with Cher, CeeLo Green with Miguel and Christina Aguilera with Ed Sheeran. In this phase, the coaches pit two of their own team members against each other in a dueling duet. After the vocal face-off, each coach must choose which artist from their team is the strongest, and has the option of stealing losing artists from an opposing coach. Each coach has two steals during the battle rounds where their artists will proceed to the new knockout rounds.
Castle (ABC, 10 p.m.) - "Number One Fan" - A desperate young murder suspect, Emma Briggs, (guest star Alicia Lagano) takes hostages at gunpoint then mysteriously insists that she will only negotiate with one person: Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion).
Hostages (CBS, 10 p.m.) - "2:45 PM" - Ellen (Toni Collette) and Brian (Tate Donovan) devise a plan with their kids to escape from Duncan (Dylan McDermott). Meanwhile, Duncan’s wife tells him that she wants to discontinue her treatment and spend her time with her husband and daughter.
