Southeast Wisconsin runners will line up for a novelty race in Oconomowoc on Saturday, September 14. The Fiesta Cancun Burrito Biathlon 5K tests runners’ speed on foot, as well as their intestinal fortitude.
After the first two miles, each contestant will stop at the Fiesta Cancun Queso Corner at Fowler Park to consume a mini meat or veggie burrito. Runners will then complete the 1.1-mile rush to the finish line.
The race’s first wave starts at 8 a.m. in downtown Oconomowoc. Costumes are optional, and awards will be presented for the most creative ensembles.
After September 10, registration costs $55 for the Fiesta Cancun Burrito Biathlon 5K. Race packet pickup is set for Friday, September 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fiesta Cancun Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, 159 East Wisconsin Avenue, in Oconomowoc. Runners may pick up packets early on race day as well.
All finishers earn custom Fiesta Cancun Burrito Biathlon medals. Participants also receive free appetizer cards from Fiesta Cancun.
The closed-course and untimed race is part of the 2013 Oconomowoc Fall Festival, hosted by the Downtown Oconomowoc Business Association. Additional festival events include a beer tent, a chili pepper eating contest, dance performances, a German bar, kayak races on Fowler Lake, kids’ games, live music, street vendors, and more.
