When I look at the news, I am often struck by the trivial matters with which people seem to be obsessed, while the world around them is going to hell in the proverbial handbasket. For example, So-and-So's ugly dress at the latest Hollywood party gets 5,000 retweets, while nobody seems to care much about the fact that our oceans, seas, rivers and waterways in general are becoming cluttered with junk and toxic chemicals.
Is this obsession with trivia simply a means of diversion away from important, profound and sometimes frightening subjects? Or is there something inherent to humanity which makes it shallow and frivolous? Then again, when worded properly and posted in the "right" medium, certain worrying news items do get a great deal of attention, so there is always hope for humanity. It's just the other, say, 99% of the time that is bothersome...
For example, the oceans are basically dying, according to scientists who say they are becoming too acidic - I know from firsthand experience that the Pacific Ocean near Los Angeles is painful to swim in - and who are showing the horrendous effects of our throw-away society on bodies of water globally. Yet, a video showing a model who is supposedly "fat" will get far more views. The oceans are dying, and this is what people are worried about? Especially around Earth Day?
What's going on here when humans are in such denial as to the dire state of their environment? Is this head-in-the-sand behavior a sign of "intelligent" design?

Thanks for sharing Acharya. It is the small minority who do care that can and will make a difference.
Humans are curious creatures. We buy sections of land and think we "own it". How can we really own anything? We imagine ourselves to be like Gods that can do whatever we want to the life-forms around us.
All of nature works together as one system. In your own body, everything works together as a system...when pathogens invade, your immune system comes to your defense without your conscious intervention.
Cancer cells are cells which have deviated from the path and reproduce out of control. They no longer function for the greater good of the organism, but continue to grow, and consume resources until they kill the whole body. Cancer does not know what it's doing, an individual cancer cell, when compared to a regular cell, it's innately "bad", it's just lost it's path.
We humans, are cancer upon the earth. We destroy ecosystems to fuel our own, artificial ecosystem. Do you ever think, that perhaps many of our problems, are not truely solveable, because we are living in a cancer?
Perhaps we as human animals not adequately wired to live in a massive global civilization. The animals don't think globally, they think of their individual lives, and innately are apart of the global life force of the earth.
The information you present is certainly concerning Acharya, and I feel saddened to see this pollution, but don't we all, inevidably, go back to thinking about our everyday lives?
Hey thanks for this post. Particularly the length. While I always look forward to your articles often due to time constraints I am unable to get through them.
Concerning helping the cause if you could include contacts to the applicable leaders in office it could help make a difference. Including links to the proper electives would make it easy for your army of readers to contact the officials and let them know how we feel about the issues you write about. Just a thought.
Thanks again and take care,

Great insights. Glad to see someone trying to make a difference.
When was the last time you picked up a piece of plastic and put in the trash?
I think it was radio talk show host, Michael Medved, who interviewed a scholar with the last name, Watson. Scholar Murdock asks, "is this...behavior a sign of 'intelligent' design?" I agree with Murdock in that I am more concerned with the cleanliness of our water than I am of a model's overly plump arse. But, unfortunately, according to Watson, our days are numbered so long as the population increases. Watson says our real boss is Mother Nature & she won't put up with our messy bedroom for long, nor our numbers. He said that Mother Nature will scale down the equation within the next 100 years. Murdock says, "..is the universe intelligently designed? Or is it..chaotic? A gigantic..mess..will it..matter..The earth could be destroyed tomorrow.." Until that happens, I'll make my mom happy by cleaning my room. Only one thing will enable Ms. Murdock to change that "99%" news content; she must own the media. Until then, Mother Nature & the boob tube will adjust human behavior.
"When was the last time you picked up a piece of plastic and put in the trash?"
If you're talking to me, I did that just today, among many other things to help reduce my detrimental impact on planet Earth, while making my stay here beneficial to the world as best I can. Is that enuff?
"Is that enuff?"
Yes!
What is ignored is CHEM TRAILS. One can usually look up at the skies on most days and see the grids, Xs and blips usually spewed out of 4 plumes by very high-flying white planes. Could this also be producing the funguses that are causing White Nose fungus syndrome in bats causing a high die off as well as frogs?
It's curious how the "Earth Hour/Day" , "global warming/climate change" people, the Club or Rome-Rockefellers or Agenda 21/U.N. as well as most environmentalists do NOT care about CHEM Trails. Nor do they care about Depleted uranium/white phospherous from (pertual wars-or the Pentagon), GM terminator seeds or fluoridated water. Nor do they care about those ill with: Agent Orange, Gulf War Syndrome or those ill with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity). They also let Christine Todd Whitman (formerly of the EPA) completely off the hook for lying about the 9/11 air quality.
Correction: (Perpetual).
Folks, ask your politicians and prez to end Chem Trailing. Contact the MSM (Mainstream Falsimedia/weather people). Get curious. Ask what's in those ingredients. What gets spewed out affects everything, (including you & the oceans).
Another example of:
Algorian Logic
A reasoning technique that entails reaching a conclusion about a subject in which one has no expertise and subsequently finding or creating factoids to support the supposition without using critical thinking skills or research to discern the obvious implausibility of the facts or the conclusion.

I see, so the oceans are dying, and you're going to make some stupid personal attack on me for pointing it out. Thank you for proving my point by providing an example of the frivolous humanity not caring about our world.
I suppose the video of trashed waterways is "a conclusion about a subject in which one has no expertise?" And just what is YOUR degree in, so that you can make such a declaration? Please provide your own creds; otherwise, we will have to assume that you too are a victim of "Algorian logic." Thank you.
Slowly but surely we are becoming the Apocalypse Generation. We will have no one else to blame but ourselves if the 2012 prediction comes true, for we are the ones that are making it come true! I believe that high gear greed has taken over humanity and we are moving away from survivor solutions and let things be what will be, with little thought in moving in the right direction. It seems humanity is in a ship lost at sea and doesn't care in what direction the ship is moving. Very Sad indeed.
Humanity is kept asleep by powerful mind control machines that humans can not even comprehend there highly advance grade of sofistication. It is not entirely blame humans for this, yes there is some human fault involved. And let's not forget the Chemtrails full of deadly bacteria, viruses, fungus, etc.I believe soon something big will trigger us to wake up and there will be help coming our way as well.Prayer is a powerful tool to avoid great danger.
Ms. Murdoch, I'll admit the picture of garbage is distressing. But who took the picture? And why? We could certainly do more to clean the environment but why isn't government doing more? I have no problem tring to orgarnize community cleanups at a grass-roots level and networking from there but I can't help but thing that government doesn't not only wish to discourage commonity action but will do their level-best to sabotage it for myriad reasons. Lastly, what do you say about Chemtrails? Please comment.
that picture of the gulls belly has been debunked as fake.
Thank you for sharing theses thoughts! - It seems you can read my own thoughts ;-)
The important thing is to become active to make things change: out yourself, make others aware, find influential people to become ambassadors for the cause, demand changes from decision makers, help find creative solutions for changes in behavior,...... work in the field where you are best at and expand from there!

these videos arent showing that anything is dying. theyre not showing any barren waters. they can talk about anything they want, show us the corpses, the destruction. all im seeing is alive and well marine life. and carbon dioxide is what plants use to breathe and is not a major gas. the idea/plan to reduce carbon emissions is a plot to put a choke hold on human prosperity by the few who hate the masses because theyve been spoiled all their lives and hadnt had to work a day in their lives. the real enemy here is psychopathic individuals in positions of their so called power. there are alternative fuels but the governments dont care to deploy them and asasinate anyone who tries to make a positive difference for humanity. there are known examples of it and not so known. That's a lot of crap for one person to pass, "political agenda". Perhaps you should see a doctor for your constipation problem.
stupid but simple
1 kg plastic trash can produce maximum 3 kg of CO2 if burned in a highly oxigenated environment
1 kg plastic trash can cover up to 100 square meters - of water or soil
difference: CO2 is something you can find in nature and livings can adapt to a slightly change, while plastic is a material you cannot find in nature, and no animal or plant can use it as food
and this is the worst case with 0 recycling
I can't see y the fact that people don't care surprises u. I have noticed that most Americans I know behave like they r dead from the neck up as long as there is Booze for the party seems to be the additude of people
Don't fret, the earth will forget about that time it came down with a bad case of humans .
As witness most of the other comments, we are a gaggle of nuts who will do anything, but anything to deny how evil they are. But Murdock has hit on a good point - WHY are people so efficiently and terminally myopic? I think its an ancient alien intervention, and we are a test-tube experiment to see how (relatively) quickly we can destroy our home "nest." Pretty darn quick, as witness the apologists on this comments forum, as well as the sad pseudo-liberals who still think they "can make a difference."
