The 34th Annual Ocean Grove Biathlon was held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Ocean Grove, N.J. The event included a 2 mile run and then a 300 yard swim in the ocean.
The start of the race was along the ocean front at 8:00 a.m. under cloudy skies and moderate temperatures in the upper 70’s that made for some great running conditions. After the 2 mile run through the runners proceeded down the stairs to the beach ran on the sand to the ocean and took off on an approximate 300 yard swim. The ocean was on the chilly side with a water temperature of about 67 degrees. The participants then ran out of the water to a finish line set up on the beach.
Coming in first overall was Andrew Dombroweicki of Ocean Grove in a time of 15:15. He was followed by Don Griffin of Belmar in 15:45 and then Dan Lenahan of Wall in 15:48.
For the women it was Samantha Hoagland of Colts Neck finishing in a time of 18:00. She was followed by Haley Roussell of Avon in 18:43 and then Nicole Cote of Ocean grove in 18:54.
Age group winners included: Miller Corrigan of Spring Lake in 20:03; Mae Corrigaqn of Spring Lake in 19:14; James Boyle of Avon in 15:52; Caneel Schippel of Wantage in 21:43; Jack Dimmitt of Ocean Grove in 18:10; Leigh Deininger of Yardley, Pennsylvania in 20:49; James Ferrorone of Brooklyn, New York in 19:20; Lauren Kangsten of West New York in 22:26; Marcy Gaal of Caru, North Carolina; Kathy Kropke of Avon in 19:26; Paul Looney of Avon in 18:21; Suzanne Ryan of Ocean Grove in 21:51; Harold Nolan of Middletown in 20:44 and Sherry Walsh of Red Bank in 23:32.
After everyone finished awards were presented by Race Director, Tina Duda of Ocean Grove to the overall and age group winners.
