There is a little Italian restaurant in York, right across from Long Sands Beach. It's easy to miss, even if you are looking for it. You most likely will be, since so many of your friends have recommended it over the years, you (finally, finally) have to go check it out.
Mimmo's is tucked in on the left among the summer houses and the motels as you pass Long Sands Beach on your right on the way up to see the Nubble Lighthouse. There is a little lot provided for your parking pleasure, to spare you from feeding the meters out front.
Once you pass through the door, you will be greeted by the very friendly staff and escorted to your seat, where you will be left with your menus and a mountain of indecision. There are just so many great sounding dishes that you may be forced to close your eyes and just order whichever one your finger lands on. Hint #1: This ordering method also works well if you forgot your reading glasses.
The entrees come with a complimentary salad that is very fresh, very good. The garlic bread, also complimentary, could be a meal in itself, if you are not careful. The view, if you are lucky enough to get a seaside table, is lovely. Hint #2: Call (207) 363-3807 to make reservations and ask for your window seat.
At the end of the meal, your server may offer you a cordial, on the house: Sambuca or Amaretto. Accept one of each. They are warming and delicious. You may also decide to partake of the dessert offering, if you have even one speck of room left. Hint #3: take your cannoli to go. You will not have one speck of room left. This restaurant is perfectly situated for walking off your calories after you have finished your meal, if you are so inclined.
The food is good. The atmosphere is cozy. The service is attentive. Mimmo's is a great place to go for Italian food in York.
