'Occupy the Bible' author Rev. Susan Thistlethwaite will speak at First Church

Was Jesus of Nazareth a free-market capitalist? Conservative Christians who believe this certainly don't get it from the Bible. Jesus always sided with the poor and disenfranchised over the rich and powerful.

The Rev. Dr. Susan Thistlethwaite will preach and teach from her latest book Occupy the Bible: What Jesus Really Said (and Did) About Money and Power at the First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad Street.

Rev. Thistlethwaite will speak from the pulpit on Sunday, February 10 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and lead an education hour at 10 a.m. She will also lead a workshop on Occupy the Bible on Monday, February 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

If you plan to stay for lunch after the February 11 workshop, the cost is $10. Please RSVP to Rev. Tim Ahrens at tahrens@first-church.org if you plan to attend.
