Occupy Oakland protesters burn flag, throw urine at media during protest

Occupy Oakland protesters burned an American flag and tossed a bottle of urine at a KTVU truck Saturday night, according to a report at Fox News.  Protesters threw a board at another media truck belonging to KPIX.

Fox reported:

About 70 Occupy demonstrators began marching around 9 p.m. from City Hall en route to police headquarters, but a line of officers quickly blocked their path. Protesters veered off and began a winding, five-mile walk through city streets that ended nearly two hours later at their starting point.

Police cars followed the protesters but there were no other outbreaks of violence.  Activists waved signs and chanted, “End the war in Oakland” and “No justice, no peace."  The Blaze noted that at one point in the livestream, protesters could be heard shouting "f**k the police."

Last weekend, hundreds were arrested as protesters burned flags and vandalized children's art in Oakland's historic City Hall.

According to CNN, some protesters called for violence against authorities in retaliation for police action in last weekend's melee.  A video has been released showing protesters throwing rocks and bottles at police who responded with tear gas.

CNN reported:

The Occupy Oakland Tactical Action Committee called last week's police response "police repression" and vowed to conduct "militant action."

"If you identify as peaceful and are likely to interfere with the actions of your fellow protesters in any way (including telling them to stop performing a particular action, grappling, assaulting or holding them for arrest), you may not want to attend this march," the committee warned in a statement on its website.

"It is a militant action. It attracts anti-capitalists, anti-fascists and other comrades of a revolutionary bent. It is not a march intended for people who are not fully comfortable with diversity of tactics."

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said anyone "who engages in criminal activity or assaults against officers or community members" would be arrested.

"This type of destructive and aggressive behavior is not welcome in our city," Chief Jordan said.

Chris Moreland, a leader with the Occupy movement, told the Associated Press the march "went well."

“As long as we don’t destroy anything, the police don’t care,” he said. “It’s a win-win situation for everybody….We get our message across and they [police] get paid.”
