Occupy Eureka protesters accused of assault, public defecation

It seems that the Occupy Wall Street protesters in New York's Zuccotti Park are not the only ones who like defecating on the doorways of local area businesses.

The North Coast Journal reported that someone - allegedly an Occupy Eureka protester - made a similar deposit at a US Bank branch in Eureka, CA.

Citing a press release from the Eureka Police Department, the Journal reported:

At about 8:09 am (Friday), Officers responded to the 5th Street branch of US Bank for a biohazard report. A US Bank representative reported that she came to work to find an unknown subject(s) had urinated and defecated in the entry way to the bank. This is the second occurrence of this type at US Bank this week.

While taking the biohazard report, the officer was also advised that a complaint had been made to US Bank by a customer concerning being surrounded and harassed by subjects from the “Occupy” group, when they attempted to use the US Bank ATM.

The police also responded to a call from local media who reported they were assaulted by Occupy protesters as they were attempting to ascertain who defecated on the bank.

A video of the confrontation with Betsy Lambert, a reporter from Eureka's KIEM, shows the protesters avoiding the question by saying banks "poop on us everyday."

No one admitted to defecating on the bank, but as the reporter was speaking with the group, someone grabbed the camera, prompting the reporter to call the police.

A post at the Humboldt Herald notes:
Lambert and her camerawoman then walked through the pathways between tents to ask others “did you poop and pee on the bank?” There they encountered a gentleman who said he had “no comment,” who then apparently grabbed the camera, the camerawoman, or both while saying “get that f*****g camera out of my face.”

The funny thing is the camera wasn’t in his face, and in fact you don’t see his face until after the incident occurred. You might recognize his face from an earlier story on the Herald.

According to the police, "The media reported that while they were conducting an interview, an “Occupy Eureka” member stepped forward and pushed the camera man and reporter. He then fled."

Officers reported that while at the Occupy Eureka site, they recovered a stolen Walgreens sign which was returned to Walgreens.

Police also warned citizens to be cautious when using ATMs or banking in the downtown Eureka area due to the increased aggressive behavior of the Occupy Eureka protesters.

A video of the incident can be seen at KIEM.
