Ocasiocasa Studio Gallery in the River District has announced a new workshop. Owner/artists Jeff and Dale Ocasio will teach participants how to create their own sculpted face wall art using nothing more than a roll of masking tape and glass marbles suppled by the gallery.
The Ocasio's workshops are fun. Jeff and Dale's teaching style is hands on and laid back, and every student gets plenty of individual attention. But it's the technique that so enthralling. Who wouldn't enjoy making a so-weird-it's-cute creature out of little more than Scotch 3M masking tape and some glass marbles? No prior experience is necessary, and by the end of the two and one-half hour session, participants have a one-of-a-kind artwork to take home and show off to their family and friends.
As Jeff and Dale's last workshop demonstrated, there's plenty of room for individual style and expression. You wouldn't think that there could be much variation in creating a figure from a blue bottle, but the seven students who gathered around the tables inside Ocasiocasa Studio Gallery on August 17 managed to do just that. Just as every artist painting a live model interprets the muse's features, figure and attitude based upon their own life experiences, education and God-given talents, Jeff and Dale's students that day tapped into their own unique constellation of experiences, education and creative elan to mold eyes, mouths, noses and other features that were marvellously different from each of the others.
It's this joy of creating that Ocasiocasa's really offering on September 7. The class runs from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. and is open to everyone 9 years old and up. Tuition is just $25 per person, and includes masking tape and glass marbles.
Space is limited, so message, call or email Ocasiocasa to reserve your place in the class. Contact info is on the gallery's "About" page. Feel free to contact Jeff and Dale with any questions.
Ocasiocasa Studio Gallery is located at 1540 Broadway Street in the downtown Fort Myers River District.
