OC Restaurant Week 2013 Launch Party is a delicious success (Photos)

A happy crowd of foodies filled the Newport Lexus dealership Saturday, February 23rd, for the Launch Party of the 2013 Orange County Restaurant Week. The event, benefiting Share Our Strength, a national organization dedicated to ending Childhood Hunger, featured over 20 restaurants sampling their house delicacies as well as wineries, bakeries, breweries, produce and liquor sampling. The sold-out event, celebrating the fifth year anniversary of OC Restaurant Week, gave a preview of the types of dishes to be featured at the over 100 restaurants participating in the OC Restaurant Week, beginning Sunday, February 24th and running through Saturday, March 2nd, 2013.

Some of the highlights at the event were Argentine sausage sandwiches from Villa Roma in Laguna Niguel, Slater's famous 50/50 burgers and a delicious salad with shrimp and arugula topped off with black truffle oil from Scott's Seafood. Landmark sampled it's ahi poke and Cucina Enoteca sampled a delicious short rib on polenta. Chambord vodka made an amazing drink with their black raspberry vodka. Patron had a sampling wall of mixed tequila drinks and La Crema and Freemark Abbey poured wine. Stella Artois returned again with glasses of it's fine beer. Melissa's Produce was sampling several types of tangerines and Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen had a special bread pudding. It was a great way to see what is coming up for the restaurant week.

The Orange County Restaurant Week runs through March 2nd. Here is the list of participating restaurants:

With a week's worth of restaurant specials for the 2013 Orange County Restaurant Week, there are bound to be smiles on a lot of Orange County residents who dine out this week. As Pamela Waitt, President of the Orange County Restaurant Association said, “This event is about bringing together the culinary community and uniting the many regions of Orange County for an event that all can enjoy. Our slogan has always been, ‘the only thing to make for dinner this week is reservations,’ and we hope that everyone will take full advantage of that suggestion!”
