Obzedat, Ghost Council is one of the latest "Magic: The Gathering" cards spoiled today from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert expansion set "Gatecrash."

At the beginning of your end step, you may exile Obzedat. If you do, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of your next upkeep. It gains haste.

Revealed today in an article by Gavin Verhey on MagicTheGathering.com, Obzedat, Ghost Council is the successor to Ghost Council of Orzhova from "Guildpact."
If you thought Geralf's Messenger was powerful, then just wait until you cast an Obzedat, Ghost Council. This mana efficient five for 5/5 Legendary Spirit Advisor slowly chips away at your opponent's life total while increasing yours, regardless of the board state.
Because Obzedat, Ghost Council won't stick around for your opponent's turn sorceries like Dreadbore and enchantments such as Oblivion Ring or Detention Sphere can't remove it unless they have a way to play break the normal rules of the game (I'm looking at you Hypersonic Dragon).
Even if an opponent attempts to Murder it, a Restoration Angel can save Obzedat, Ghost Council and further punish your adversary. With a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed on the battlefield, Obzedat, Ghost Council will be next to impossible for your opponents to deal with. It'll take a miracle like Terminus or a Selesnya Charm to exile it.
Because Obzedat, Ghost Council will be entering and leaving the battlefield during each of your turns, you'll be able to trigger effects like on Cathar's Crusade.
We have no doubt that Obzedat, Ghost Council will shine in Commander, and Verhey suggests that a lone copy of Obzedat, Ghost Council may be a good addition to Birthing Pod decks in Modern.
