Obamacare site crashes; glitches reported same day as shutdown

On day-one the Obamacare marketplace opened for enrollment, the federal website crashed. As millions of middle-class workers visited the Affordable Care Act site, it crashes, ironically, on the same day of the government shutdown, according to an October 1 MSNBC news report.

The Obamacare site crashed on a day that was originally supposed to be a celebration of the Democratic Party and President Barack Obama's landmark passage of universal government-backed health insurance for middle-class Americans.

Sources say that servers on the main ACA site crashed moments after opening for enrollment and there are numerous reports of state portals going down as well.

Many locations reported widespread error messages, slow page-loading, and inability of visitors to log in and register for the healthcare exchanges in the marketplace.

In fact, New York, home to as many as 2.6 million uninsured residents, reported 2 million people visiting the Obamacare website before it crashed.

Tuesday, Obama addressed the public from the Rose Garden over the crashes reported around the country and emphasized how it speaks volumes to why health care reform was needed in America.

The reason is because more than 1 million people visited before 7 a.m. That gives you the sense of how important this is to Americans around the country," the president said.

The Obamacare site crashed at a time in which 800,000 federal employees were furloughed after Republicans and Democrats failed to stop a government shutdown on the first day of the month.

As such, many people and groups (civilian and federal) are negatively impacted by the glitches in the site. Moreover, countless uninsured Americans are caught in the middle of a stalemate over the federal budget and partisan politics.

This story is developing.
