Today, House Speaker John Boehner made the statement that he will support the Obama Administtion in the call for military action against Syria for its continued use of chemical type weapons against its own citizens. According to reports from MSNBC Boehner stated, "I am going to support the president's call for action,” he told reporters. "I believe my colleagues should support this call for action.". He continued "“The use of these weapons has to be responded to,”. Having Boehner endorsement could be influential with other Republican to win them over for the use of military action. Many Republicans have had a reluctance in endorsing the military action. Obama's meeting with congressional leaders was part of his push to win over support for his request for authorization for limited military strikes against Assad. He indicated he is open to changing the language to address lawmakers' concerns, but urged them to take a prompt vote. According to reports from the AP, Boehner emerged from a White House meeting with Obama and told reporters the U.S. Must respond to Syrian President Bashar Assad's alleged use of chemical weapons. Boehner said only the United States possesses the capability and the capacity to stop Assad and warn others around the world that such actions will not be tolerated. President Obama has continued to assure Americans that the plan of military action does not call "for boots on the ground" and" that this is not Iraq". President Obama and his cabinet continue talks with members of congress and the senate to create more support in the Syrian crisis. Obama won conditional support Monday from two of his fiercest foreign policy critics, Republican Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.Senator McCain has stated that if congress did not pass the request it would have “catastrophic” for the United States and its credibility in the world.Support is still needed and Boehner has stated We have enemies around the world that need to understand that we're not going to tolerate this type of behavior. We also have allies around the world and allies in the region who also need to know that America will be there and stand up when it's necessary," The White House continues talks today with lawmakers to shore up support for the action.
