A perennial characteristic of totalitarian regimes whether they be communist, fascist, or monarchist, is the need to control information. In order for these oppressive governments to succeed they must limit the information the populace receives and manipulate data in order to spin facts to make them favorable to the regime's objectives.
Barack Obama announced yesterday that he would implement 'truth teams,' or 'squads' as some are calling them, to confront critics nationwide prior to the November Presidential election.
When George Orwell published his blockbuster novel entitled 1984, he described a fictional totalitarian regime known as 'Big Brother,' which put into place the 'Ministry of Truth'--one of four central agencies of the government--in order to control the flow of information and make so-called 'corrections' to misperceptions.
Thus, the Ministry implemented what became known as 'newspeak' which redefined common terms that would work to the regime's benefit. History was rewritten. Facts were manufactured. Truth was created. And if the regime made a mistake, the Ministry of Truth went back and rewrote the facts to make it appear that the government had made no mistake.
Three slogans of the Ministry were kept before the public consciousness at all times, which serve as perfect illustrations of the manner in which common terms were redefined: first, "War is Peace," second, "Freedom is slavery," and third, "Ignorance is strength."
In the case of Barack Obama, is there a 'ministry of truth' operating right before our eyes? Consider a few facts which are all on the record.
First, when the Administration reduces the amount of an automatic spending increase or cuts the size of a tax increase, these actions are described as spending and tax cuts. But in fact, spending and taxes continue to rise. The only difference is the amount of the increase. How, then, can such things be described as 'cuts'?
Second, in order to bolster its contention that a big economic recovery is underway, the Administration points to supposed declines in unemployment. But in order to arrive at such statistical declines, statisticians must exclude from the figures multi millions of Americans who have dropped out of the work force altogether and are thus no longer counted as unemployed. In order to accomplish its goal of more reductions in joblessness for December, for example, the Administration did not count 1.2 million Americans who dropped out of the workforce in one month.
Third, ObamaCare was billed as a means by which to reduce the ever burgeoning costs of healthcare. But every known cost analysis of the plan sites the fact that the expense of implementation is vast and taxes will have to be raised drastically. Obama's new budget submitted to Congress yesterday vindicates the warning of those who made such dire predictions. The budget calls for 3.8 trillion in spending and 1.2 trillion in tax increases. But the Administration looks the public straight in the eye and claims that ObamaCare reduces the costs of healthcare.
Fourth, the Administration has made sure that its allies in the mainstream media refer to Republicans in Congress as 'extremist,' particularly in the House where the GOP is in control. But the 'Ministry of Truth' makes sure that actions such as dictating to the largest Christian group in America--the Roman Catholic Church--that it must pay for something it deplores are portrayed as 'mainstream.' And appointing Marxist 'czars' to serve in the highest levels of government is no big deal. And suing a state to prevent it from securing its border with Mexico in order to protect its citizens from the constant onslaught of crime and murder is perfectly acceptable.
None of this, of course, is described as 'extremist.'
With 99% of the mainstream media in his hip pocket, Obama must seek ways to insure that social media sites and bloggers are brow beaten into submission to the Administration's perverted version of 'truth.' Thus, the truth squads.
The rollout also includes a social media blitz, directing supporters to three new websites: KeepingHisWord.com, which highlights Obama’s record and “promises kept”; KeepingGOPHonest.com, which highlights GOP policy positions; and AttackWatch.com, which fact-checks claims made against Obama on the campaign trail.
Apparently the various teams of the Obama Truth Squad are going to be extremely busy. A great deal of the chatter from the citizens on social networking sites is decidedly anti-Obama.
