Last week President Obama cautioned Americans about being too cynical. Is there reason to believe that the President is motivated by self-interest when he took his family to Martha’s Vineyard and then returned to Washington days later for a couple days meetings, and then returned again to his retreat? What part of his integrity is at stake? Is it about being concerned for the cost of such a maneuver?
This little forward and backward jaunt added additional millions to the cost of his vacation.
a. Met with a foreign leader
b. Acted on immigration reform
c. Acted on tax reform
d. None of the above
Oh yes, the action provoked Americans to be cynical.
The Hill report that follows beats the dead horse into the ground. However, there is more.
Missouri is burning and there is more police and public violence in the heartland and elsewhere. The President was bothered by the fact that African Americans are being shot while unarmed, but not enough to take his eye off the golf ball. Stop being cynical.
Poverty remains in America as does insufficient opportunity for upward mobility. Nothing has been done to pursue a new model for sustainable economics, even though capitalism is headed over the cliff and the environment is still teetering on the tipping point.
There are wars being fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Gaza, but all of that can wait until the President finishes the back nine, right?
Maybe the President enjoys Washington when everyone else is on vacation. One can hear yourself think?
Oh yes, how was lunch with Joe Biden? Did you give him a pep talk to convince him that Democrats need a backup plan in the event that Hillary poops out?
Do you think that a Biden - Warren ticket might fly better than a Clinton - Brown ticket? Just asking and surely not being cynical.
“Obama heads back to vacation after unexplained DC trip

President Obama went back to his vacation on Martha’s Vineyard Tuesday evening following less than 48 hours in Washington, leaving people puzzled over why he came back in the first place.
Obama’s two days in Washington were mostly quiet, and concluded with the president receiving his daily national security briefing in the morning, and joining Vice President Biden to huddle with members of his economic team in the afternoon.
Administration officials have insisted for weeks that the president just wanted to return to the White House for a series of meetings, but the explanation was met with a healthy dose of skepticism, since Obama rarely interrupts his vacations.
Judicial Watch estimates the extra roundtrip cost $1.1 million. Only daughter Malia accompanied Obama back to Washington.
Speculation for why Obama returned focused around the possibility of a secret foreign leader meeting or the roll out of a new administration initiative on immigration or corporate taxes.
But no such explanation materialized.”
