William Jacobson, NBC's affiliate in Washington, D.C has reported that park police removed tourists and Viet Nam Vets from the memorial wall. The area around the memorial was barrycaded and a small group of vets walked around them and were told by park police that the memorial was closed.
Later, a larger contingent of veterans showed up and took the barryers down and soon the plaza filled up with veterans and tourists. At that point, park police arrived and chased the vets from their memorial.
The Viet Nam Memorial is a black granite wall that contains the names of those who died in Viet Nam. It is an outside wall. It's much cheaper to let people walk past the wall than it is to have park police guard it in order to keep people away.
While grocery stores on military bases are closed, they were somehow able to keep the golf course on Andrews Air Force base open. Coincidentally, that is where Obama plays golf.
To make a pun, "it's all par for the course."
